It is easy to get my ego puffed up when I post or a client post photos and I get many “likes” and wonderful comments. The truth is that as much as I love to hear them, I feel that my path as an artist has been stagnant. I need to be get back to the fundamentals and have my work to be professionally critiqued in front of a judging panel. In 2010 I won “Portrait Photographer of the Year” at the Professional Photographers of the Sacramento Valley and due to personality conflicts I decided not to continue with my membership in that professional group. Yet, I do need the critical eye of a professional photographer to tell me what I am doing wrong. And I don’t mean “professional” by referring to the thousands of “weekend warriors” that have purchase a fancy camera and a zoom lens and give people burn copies of their work and charge a fee. We all need to make a living. I am referring to the seasoned professional that can tell me in a methodical way, what is what my photography needs in order to grow as an artist.
Growing as an artist takes time … you need to nurture your God given talents and you need to practice, practice, practice! Yet, when do you find the time to grow? As a result, I am making some radical decisions that are going to affect my business model. To begin with, I will be taking a year off my business. This year will give me time to concentrate in growing as an artist. I will take a risk in doing this and I may have a 95% failure rate, but I am more interested in the 5% success. This year will allow me to experiment with cinematography and other things. The second is that after a year, I will not be doing portrait photography any more. It will be strictly commercial and advertisement work with a flair of the art. In order to hone this skill, I need this time off.
I want to thank everyone for your support and I hope to get your help in the future with referrals, as I am going to need talent in order to accomplish this task. I will be making announcements through the year and I hope to create beautiful work. I will put my work in front of Professional Photographers of America (a national stage vs. a local stage) in order to get my work critiqued and continued to work as an artist. Last, if you need a good portrait photographer, I have some photography friends and would love to have your business.
Our Portrait Photography Business has been closed as of December 31, 2013
This is posting is to notify everyone that our Portrait Photography Business has been closed as of December 31, 2013. The business was registered in the City of Elk Grove, California. I, Ruben Edgardo, will continue my growth as an artist taking on projects geared towards the commercial and advertising side of photography on a “pro bono” basis. Postings will continue but will have a commercial/advertising/artistic slant. I want to thank everyone reading this posting for your support.
Whenever I meet a Punjabi family, they always seem to leave me with the same feeling … Joy! They are always very welcoming and happy to see me. I on the other hand like to bring joy to the families I photograph and in this case it has been a mutual interchange of joy. For me, it has been a privilege and an honor to bring such beautiful and artistic images to this wonderful family. Enjoy the images!

Among the high school kids that I have photographed in my life as a photographer, I have never met someone who was so loved as this young man. This could be seen and felt as I was invited to a celebration for his graduation. From the very young to the mature individuals surrounding him with so much affection. What a privilege and joy was to have been part of this right of passage. Here is some of the images from his Senior Portrait session. Enjoy the pics!
